Launchpad 2 Law

Bridging the gap between rural New South Wales and a career in law

A collaborative legal-access initiative that sends lawyers into regional and rural communities, so talented students can meet the profession face to face, and see a clear path from their classroom to a career in law.

About the programme

Many access programmes exist. Very few reach rural students in person.

Launchpad 2 Law is a collaborative initiative led by Ashurst, Clayton Utz and Gilbert + Tobin, designed to broaden access to the legal profession for students from regional and rural New South Wales.

The gap we address is simple: many valuable programmes already help students reach university, but very few give regional and rural students direct, face-to-face engagement with legal professionals. So we send lawyers into communities to share what a path into law really looks like.

The four pillars

Four ways we open the door to law

From a first conversation in a regional classroom to a scholarship, a mentor and a seat at the Scholars Dinner - each pillar removes a different barrier between talented students and a career in law.

School visits

Lawyers and partner representatives travel out to regional and rural NSW high schools to talk about what a career in law really looks like.

Scholarships

Cost should never be the reason a regional or rural student stops short of law. Our scholarships help with the real expenses of starting a degree away from home.

  • $10,000 annual scholarships for regional and rural students
  • Awarded to students who enrol in an NSW law degree
  • Renewable support that follows scholars into their studies
03 / 04

Scholars Day & Dinner

Once a year, scholars come together in Sydney for a day built around them - practical, personal, and genuinely celebratory.

  • A panel session and a hands-on legal-skills workshop
  • A formal dinner with a keynote address by Chief Justice Bell
  • Scholars are paired with mentors from the partner firms

Bridging the information gap

The right information at the right time changes outcomes. Our resources demystify the journey for students who may be the first in their family to consider law.

  • A dedicated website and resource materials
  • Guides to university applications and scholarships
  • Legal-skills education to build confidence early
